The initial impression one has is that spheres and orbs appear to be the same type of craft, given their similarities and the fact that both are mostly reported as being perfectly spherical.
But several variations do occur. Spheres have been witnessed to be flattened or elongated when see traveling at speed. Mostly however, they are a round shaped solid object either glowing or metallic.
Colours have been reported as white, silver, red, green and amber, and may resemble a ball of fire when seen. Daytime colours may also include black. Their size is reported to be in the 1 to 30 meter range.
When viewed from a distance they may appear as small as a pea held at arms length. Orbs are also sometimes known as obols which are smaller spheres with a 1 to 3 feet diameter. They appear as a round shaped illumination that does not seem to be a solid object, but more of a plasma in many different colours.
There are some who consider that orbs may be some form of probe, which may be preprogrammed or remotely controlled sensing devices. Spheres and orbs remain a relatively common type of craft, although in recent years have been seen to favour their appearance in clusters.

Unreported Orb report from an ex-soldier who was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington
I’m going back a few decades but I have always been shall I say bothered by a sighting that occurred in February of 1968 at Fort Lewis, Washington.
I was in basic training and we had just been dismissed. As always there was a rush to the telephone banks so we could call home. I would say it was about 6:15-6:30 pm. 12 to 15 of us saw a series of orbs being for lack of a better term “jettisoned” from a larger craft, these orbs as I can recall about three to five of them took off at a tremendous rate of speed and within a five to six minute interval they returned to the larger craft which emitted a reddish glow.
As I recall the largest of the orbs had a yellowish appearance, the ejected ones were also yellowish with the exception of one that was red, it was the first ejected and the last to return
The large orb then hovered and ascended at a speed that I know could not have been a known aircraft.
We tried to get a duty officer to come out, but by the time he responded it was all over.
I really am writing to see if anyone else has ever reported this sighting.

Unreported Daylight UFO sighting.
Monmouth County, NJ – Summer, 1959.

On a warm summer evening in early July of that year, I, my family along with several neighbors, were witnesses to a unique daylight UFO sighting that to this day has never been reported or satisfactorily explained.
The object observed was that of a shiny metallic sphere having the appearance of silver or liquid mercury.
Its approximate size on retrospect was about that of a pencil eraser held at arms length.
The sphere also displayed flashing red and white lights that seemed to flash randomly all around it, mainly at its equator.
What makes this sighting even more interesting is that the location of the farm from which we viewed the object is adjacent to the U.S. Navy road and railroad that links NWS (then NAD) Earle (a major munitions storage facility located here on the east coast in the town of Colts Neck, NJ) to its pier facilities located in Leonardo, NJ (on Raritan Bay in New York Harbor).
The road itself is restricted to only official military use, primarily that of moving restricted cargo between the facilities located in Colts Neck and the Naval vessels and the pier facilities located in Leonardo.
It should also be noted that the farm’s location is especially important because of its proximity to two critical military facilities that to this day, are still considered significant and militarily important installations, those being Fort Monmouth and Earle. Dorbrook farm (now a Monmouth county park) is approximately 4 miles from the major R&D facilities located at Fort Monmouth (Communications and Electronics Command) as well as about a mile from the Naval Weapons Station Earle perimeter.
Unfortunately, because of the passage of the years, I can only estimate the day of the week and the approximate time of the sighting. The time, in my estimation was between 6:00pm and 8:00pm eastern daylight savings around dusk and the day of the week was probably midweek.
The object, when observed was moving in a south, southwesterly direction at a speed of approximately 60 to 120 mph, and at an altitude of between 1000 to 3000 feet (note the size, distance and altitude are a little hard to determine).
I have been back to the location of the sighting on numerous occasions since I only live 7 or 8 miles from the site and still have trouble coming up with a very accurate estimate. The location from which we viewed the object was from the front porch of the house that we lived in at the time (note: the house was just torn down last year).
It should also be noted that what was possibly the same object was also sighted several miles away to the north of the Dorbrook facility by an independent observer that I came across several years ago, who also remembered this object.
He related to me at that time that it actually landed on a marshy area not far from his location near Newman Springs Road in the River Plaza section of Middletown Township.
The area of the sighting falls right on a straight line drawn from the Leonardo docking facilities that would be a “beeline” directly to the Ammunition Depot located in Colts Neck.
This gentleman observed his object taking off from that marshy area located between Red Bank and River Plaza where the Swimming and Navesink rivers meet.
I actually met this witness approximately 10 years ago. By all accounts, this witnesses testimony dovetails with our observation and further adds to its uniqueness. The witness who related his story to me currently works for the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth.
The final bit of anecdotal information that I believe may be of importance is the fact that in August of 2002, a crop circle appeared on Dorbrook farm and was duly reported in the Asbury Park Press with an aerial photograph attached to it.
I leave it to the reader as to whether or not this fact is significant. Even though the two events are separated by over 40 years, it does add to the mystery.
In closing, the report as it is presented here is accurate to the best of my knowledge. I was a principal in the sighting along with my father, mother and sister and several other witnesses who also resided on the farm during that period.
The other witness that I came across was found only several years ago. Finally, the sighting itself never made it to the newspapers,with the exception of the Crop Circle of 2002.

Location USA.
Time:just after sunset, but fully light. I was feeding the hogs, the only member of the family outside. My mother was in the house, my father and brothers in the barn, milking cows.
I happened to look up as this UFO came more or less towards me, high enough to easily clear the tall cottonwoods along the creek, maintaining a straight West to East course, at constant altitude, which I estimate at about 200 feet, since it was hidden by the trees along the creek until it was over them. I estimate its speed about the same as a car coming down the driveway, no more than 20 mph. It had the look of an asteroid, spherical and pitted, covered with a greenish aura, as if it were burning up. That’s it! Very simple description. No windows, no antenna, no protuberances.
It was clearly not an asteroid, which do not travel silently, slowly, or horizontally. Since I am pretty sure about the height, I can make a crude estimate of size, which would be 25 feet in diameter to a factor of 2. In other words, it could have been 50 feet, or it could have been 12-13 feet in diameter. As a disguise, it was very effective. It was seen over wide regions of Oklahoma and Texas, according to the paper next day. It was even seen by two different groups of astronomers, who took it for an asteroid. They plotted two quite different landing points, hundreds of miles apart.
It was completely silent, like most UFOs. Nearly overhead it made an instantaneous right angled turn and went off to the south, passing over the horizon within half a mile, which provides another proof that it was flying very low. When I say “instantaneous” I mean, no banking, no slowing down, as if it had zero inertia. Nobody in my family believes this story. I was 10 at the time..
From Paul R Hill, the late and respected NASA Scientist who had an astounding UFO encounter.
In the early 1950s, I studied the UFO pattern and noticed their propensity for visiting defense installations, flight over water, evening visits, and return appearances.
Within a 20-mile radius of the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, where I was employed, were located over a dozen defense installations, and we were almost surrounded by water. On July 16, 1952, after the Pan American pilots made headlines in the local paper by reporting disks passing below their airliner near Hampton, I thought, “This is the night. They may be back.”. Accordingly, expecting conformance to the pattern, at 5 minutes to 8PM, just at twilight, a companion and I arrived at the Hampton Roads waterfront, parked, and started to watch the skies for UFOs. At 8.00, I said to my companion, “I’d give a thousand dollars for a good look at a UFO.”
No sooner were the words spoken than here they came, up over the southern horizon, slightly east of a collision course with the observers. We kept an eye on them as they approached, getting out of the car to do so.
They came in side by side at about 500mph, at what was later learned from triangulation to be 15,000 to 18,000 feet altitude.
From all angles they looked like amber traffic lights a couple of blocks away, which would make them spheres about 13 to 20 feet in diameter. They slowed into a left turn to pass directly over our heads toward the west. They practically came to a stop as they approached. It was then that they started their strange jitter, a surprising phenomenon. First one leaped a little way ahead of the other as fast or faster than the eye could follow – you couldn’t be sure. Then the other seemed to jump ahead.
They kept up these odd mincing steps for a few seconds as they passed overhead, while we craned our necks. Then, after passing zenith, they made an astounding maneuver. Maintaining their spacing of about 200 feet, they revolved in a horizontal circle, about a common center, at a rate of at last once per second.
After a few revolutions, and without a pause, they switched their revolutions into a vertical plane, keeping up the same amazing rate. Awestricken, I reached my hand out to the car for support saying, “Nothing can do that. These are really saucers.” That was halfway into a 3-minute sighting. Up to that point I had just been a fascinated spectator. Now they had convinced me.
At that moment, I realized that here were visitors from another world. There is a lot of truth in the old saying, “It’s different when it happens to you.” It was within my line of business to know that no Earthcraft could remotely approach those maneuvers. Within seconds of the circling maneuver, an identical sphere came in from the Atlantic Ocean on an ascending course over lower Chesapeake Bay and joined the others, falling in below.
For a few seconds they seemed to float along, then began accelerating slowly toward the south as a further amber sphere came in from the James River to build the group up to a formation of four as they headed south. I thought, “A-ha, the circling maneuver was a rendezvous signal”. The sphere that came in from the Atlantic had evidently cruised northward, just offshore. This was learned in a visit to Norfolk, Virginia, looking for additional data. One of the Norfolk papers carried an article about it.
A Virginia Beach bus driver was going north along the coast when a lone passenger had come forward a few minutes before 8.00PM and tapped him on the shoulder, calling his attention to a strange, orange or amber fiery-looking sphere out over the water. The driver was sufficiently impressed to stop the bus, and together they watched the fiery sphere cruising northward parallel to shore, just above the water’s surface. This was obviously the first object that answered the rendezvous signal. My instant impression was that these vehicles were surveying the East Coast. If they had good resolving powers, perhaps I was in their survey.
Mr. Bennie Smit of Braeside Farm, near Fort Beaufort, South Africa, had close contact with a UFO at 9.00AM on June 26, 1972.
He said that one of his labourers led him to see a ball of fire, and “sure enough, there was a fiery ball hovering at tree top height. It was about two and a half feet across, with flames shooting out… When I first looked it was a big red ball, but now it was green and it suddenly changed to a yellowish-white.”
Smit went for his rifle and called the police. He returned and fired eight shots at the object. He was sure his eighth shot hit, for he heard a thud. It moved up and down and disappeared behind the trees.
Soon after the police arrived, “We saw a round black shiny object about two and a half feet in diameter emerge from behind a tree”… Shots had no effect and when anybody approached it, it shielded away behind the bushes.
Smit then moved into the thick bush, looking for it. Suddenly he saw it about 20 yards away. He fired two quick shots, but with a loud whirring noise it veered off over the tree tops, cutting a pathway through the foliage. “Smit said that the trees and bushes parted for the UFO as it sped away”.
He was adamant that no air blast caused this, so it appears that some type of force field may be associated with the object. This account also mentioned that although the sphere had looked like a ball of fire and had been very close to the foliage, nothing was burned.
This is further evidence that the plasma around a UFO may be quite cool. It only looks like fire because excited molecules give off light whether hot or cold. Either there were two UFOs or, as seems more probable, it just changed colour one more time, to black. It is worth a passing thought that the dark daytime colour might be associated with an increase in its force field, so that the bullets couldn’t get through. This would also cause the nearby branches to deflect more noticeably.
