Mission:  A 13-year interstellar exchange program where 12 American military specialists were transported to the planet Serpo in the Zeta Reticuli system to live among the Eben civilization, study their technology, and document their culture.

Date Started:  1965 (Official departure). Roots date back to 1947 (Roswell) and 1952 (EBE-1 communications)   Ended:  1978 (Return of the 7 survivors).

Who or Whom Started It:  Initiated by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) under a plan allegedly set in motion by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

Location:  The planet Serpo (Zeta Reticuli system); Departure occurred from the Nevada Test Site.

Special Features/Characteristics: 

• The Team: 12 personnel (10 men, 2 women) were “sheep-dipped” (identities erased) and assigned numbers (e.g., 102 “Skipper,” 700 “Doc 1”).

• The Logistics: The team brought 40 tons of supplies, including military motorcycles, M16 rifles, and even a lawnmower, along with music ranging from Elvis to Mozart.  

• The Journey: A 10-month trip aboard an Eben spacecraft traveling at superluminal speeds (approx. 40x the speed of light).

Summary/Description:  Project Serpo is the alleged pinnacle of human-alien collaboration. Following the 1947 Roswell crash and a subsequent 1949 crash in Corona, the lone survivor (EBE-1) established communication with his home planet. This led to a formal agreement for an exchange. While on Serpo—a world with two suns and extreme heat—the team documented a population of roughly 650,000 Ebens. Two team members died on the planet, and two chose to remain behind permanently.

Other Details:  The Ebens reportedly provided the U.S. with the “Yellow Book,” a holographic device containing the history of the universe. Of the 12 original team members, only 7 returned to Earth in 1978; all have since passed away, allegedly from the high levels of radiation on Serpo.
